Associate Professor, Multicultural Studies Librarian, Instruction Coordinator- University of Nebraska-Lincoln
I'm currently an academic librarian but have worked in public and special libraries. Each experience was different and helped me find what type I prefer to work in. I'm an accidental librarian, it wasn't on my radar until someone suggested it. Librarianship is the most flexible and diverse profession you'll never hear about. There is something for everyone. One survey alone had over 2000 job titles returned! There are options when it comes to school and you don't need to have a certain major or degree. Librarians are diverse and there are positions for people from all academic areas. Having a specialty or area of expertise helps! If you can't move to attend grad school, there are lots of online options as well as scholarships. I've explored the career a fair bit, and I'd love to help you do the same.
