Director, Ozark Foothills Literacy Project

Batesville, AR
Studying librarianship led me to the nonprofit world, where I serve as the director of the Ozark Foothills Literacy Project. Being the director of a nonprofit allows me a great deal of flexibility and diversity in my daily routine. Our organization teaches adults who are learning to read and adults who are learning English. This job combines many of my favorite things: literacy, libraries, community collaborations and exploring other cultures. Most importantly, I get to help people every day! A typical week might include storytelling at Family Reading Night, teaching an English language student how to ask for a raise, devising a contest for literacy students, filming a promotional video, writing an article for the local newspaper, or organizing a “Bike Ride for Literacy” fundraiser. It's colorful, rewarding work, and if you send me a message, I'll tell you more!
Went to library school at Florida State University
What I'm Reading:
Just finished: The Pearl, John Steinbeck | Just started: The Human Stain, Philip Roth | Up next: Forces For Good, J. Gregory Dees
