Learning Services Librarian, Southern Medical Program & Biology Liaison at The University of British Columbia
If you'd like to enter a profession that is flexible enough to meet all of your diverse interests then look no further! The evolving field of librarianship has enabled me to continuously learn and grow in a variety of ways. I've successfully transitioned from being a Children's Librarian in a public library to a Medical Librarian in a specialized hospital library to my current role as a Learning Services Librarian in an academic institution. I am not only an expert searcher who retrieves information to support faculty, staff and students but also an educator who fosters a sense of lifelong learning to students by teaching information literacy instructional sessions aimed at guiding them through the research process. Over the past few years, I've also developed technical skills as a webmaster managing 24/7 seamless access to e-resources. Additionally, I am an event coordinator who organizes library workshops, and a subject liaison librarian who builds solid working relationships with colleagues, faculty, staff and students. Ultimately though, I am all of this and so much more as a librarian! I not only answer reference questions, but also develop appropriate print and electronic collections to support research, teaching and learning at the University of British Columbia. Overall, librarianship is a truly rewarding career for those who enjoy variety in their work and thrive in change- as no two days are alike! Feel free to contact me if you're interested in learning more about working in academic, medical or public libraries.
